The Columbus Division of Police are searching for a white male area resident that may have an unexplained facial injury after attempting to sexually assault a female in her house early Wednesday morning. The assault occurred in the off-campus area at 3 a.m. Wednesday in a residence on the corner of Chittenden and Indianola.

The victim remains in stable condition after sustaining a stab wound to the chest, while fighting off the attacker. The victim, a white female, awoke and saw a white male standing in her room. She struggled with the intruder when he approached her, kicking him in the face. According to a statement released by the Columbus Division of Police the suspect was carrying the knife when he entered the residence.

"It's important to note that this was a particularly brutal attack," said Sgt. Brent Mull, spokesman for the Columbus Division of Police. "We believe the struggle went on for a of couple minutes, and the kick that the victim struck her attacker with was hard enough to have done some damage, yet he continued to struggle with her."
