Gardner, 22, was shot early Sunday morning as he sat in the passenger seat of a friend's Infiniti after the friend honked his horn at a Chevrolet Tahoe that was being driven erratically on Interstate 380 in San Bruno, California Highway Patrol investigators said.
Somebody in the Tahoe responded to the beep with a burst of gunfire, investigators said. One of those bullets tore through the back of Gardner's seat and into his head, according to his mother, Karen Gardner, who on Monday made the decision to end life support and donate her son's organs.

COLLEGE STUDENT SLASHED IN HEAD ON SUBWAY PLATFORM from The Associated Press A 21-year-old Massachusetts college student was attacked by a knife-wielding stranger as she waited on a downtown Manhattan subway platform early Friday, police said. The woman was slashed across the forehead by a man she described as wearing a red, hooded jacket and carrying a pen knife with a sharp point, officials said.

According to police, the woman was staying with friends in Brooklyn. She was on her way home from Webster Hall, an East Village nightclub, when the suspect approached her on the platform. The woman told police that the man asked if she was a prostitute. She laughed and said no, which is when the suspect slashed her, police said. A track worker heard a scream around 5:30 a.m. on a Chambers Street platform of the "J" train, New York City Transit spokesman Paul Fleuranges said. The worker alerted police and the suspect fled along the tracks, Fleuranges said. The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where she underwent surgery Friday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
