A college student used her head, and her shoes, to get away from an attacker overnight. The USD student was walking on campus early Friday morning when a strange man attacked her. But thanks to her high heels, she was able to get away. Vermillion Police are calling the attack an attempted sexual assault. It happened right outside Renee Rodgers' apartment complex.

"It was weird because last night I was around here and we saw police officers and so we didn't know what was going on, but heard this morning that there was an assault," Rodgers said. Police say the suspect threw the female student to the ground and kicked her. But the victim was walking barefoot, carrying her high heels, which she used as a weapon. "She fought back, struck the suspect in the face with the heel of the shoe.

We are optimistic that she hit him hard enough to leave some sort of a wound. Our assumption is her adrenaline was probably strong enough she may have done some damage," Vermillion Chief of Police Art Mabry said.

The area where it happened is well lit, but police say when you're walking alone, lights aren't enough to ward off an attackers. "Probably not the best thing to do 12:30 in the morning. We encourage whether they are male or female to stay in groups. There is safety in numbers," Mabry said.

Other students are relieved to hear the woman was able to get away. "Go heels," Gina Serck said.The suspect is described as a white man, 18-22 years old, 5' 10" with short dark hair gelled to one side. He was wearing a white shirt and black vest. A UC Berkeley student who was sexually assaulted on campus in December reported the incident to UCPD last Wednesday.

The student was walking by the southeast entrance of Martin Luther King Jr. Student Union at 2 a.m. when she was grabbed from behind by an unknown suspect.

The suspect was described as a white male, 6-foot-2 in stature, 18 to 22 years old and smelling strongly of marijuana. The suspect did not appear to be homeless, said UCPD Lt. Doug Wing.

The student was able to fight off the suspect and escape, according to a police report.

The sexual assault of a woman who was attending a fraternity party early Saturday has prompted the University of Washington Police Department to issue a warning to students.

The victim is a 19-year-old woman who was attending a party at a fraternity in the 4700 block of 17th Avenue Northeast with a friend, Seattle police said. She is not a UW student, campus police said.

The woman was leaving a bathroom when she was met by two men she didn't know. The men took her someplace nearby and sexually assaulted her at around 1 a.m. Saturday, said police. The victim was taken to a hospital by her friend. around 5:40 a.m.

SEATTLE - University of Washington student Erin Clavadetscher says two of her classmates have been mugged on or near campus and a third was recently jumped and beaten up for no apparent reason.

A sexual assault in a fraternity early Saturday followed by a mugging on fellow UW student Sam McHaney and his friend has her scared, and angry that more isn't being done to curb the violence.
"Even though there have been arrests and they say that they’re doing things it’s just not happening. There’s not that like fear of getting in trouble any more,” said Erin.

Students have told the media that a fight broke out during the party, and that usually the parties are not violent at all. As a student from a nearby college, I agree that there is not much violence on the local campuses, however many of the local colleges, including Amherst have open parties that are often dangerously over-crowded.

Amherst is well known as a highly regarded academic institution, but in the area Amherst is also known as a great destination for parties. Unlike some of the neighboring schools, Amherst does not have much security at their parties, meaning anyone can walk in and join in on the fun.

Because of their reputation for throwing great parties, Amherst seemed like a great place to go on a Saturday night. I have gone to two parties at the dorms at Amherst, and both were terrible disasters. While no one was nearly killed while I was there, I will definitely never go to a party there again.

The first time I went to a party at Amherst, it was the middle of winter and I went with one friend. We were able to simply walk into the dorms and join the party. The rooms were incredibly dark and so crowded that it was almost impossible to walk through them. During the middle of the party, the fire alarm went off and we all had to stand outside in the freezing cold. After a few minutes, my friend and I just gave up and went home. If the party on Saturday was as crowded as the party I attended, it seems very plausible that someone could get stabbed and people would not even notice.

Greenville Police responded to the incident at Copper Beech Apartments on Silver Maple Lane in Greenville early Sunday morning.

Police say two men tried to get another to come off his deck to fight them. When the man refused to leave his home, police say the suspects broke down the door of the apartment and beat up the three young men inside. Police say the victims were bleeding but did not seek medical attention.

Police arrested 21-year-old Tommy Falcone, who goes to East Carolina University, and 21-year-old Jacob Caudle, who goes to Pitt Community College, according to detectives.

Two of the assault victims are ECU students; one goes to N.C. State.

A UT student is robbed then run over. Police fear the next assault could have a more tragic ending.

In the early morning hours of January 19th Delaina Leroy was walking to her car at the corner of 4th Street and the southbound lanes of IH 35 when she says her purse was ripped from her shoulder.
"My car was literally parked where that green truck is. I was so close to being safe," said Leroy.
“There was enough force to break my watch.”
She was in the moment of fight or flight. She chose to fight and ran after the man who she can only describe as Hispanic.
"My keys were in there, my phone my wallet,” she said.
When they got to the corner of 5th Street and Sabine, she says he jumped into the passenger side of an older model maroon Chevy Impala with a large white oval shaped decal with flames on the rear window.
"He proceeded to peel out and hit me and that's when I rolled over his hood and my arm got stuck under his wheel and he ran over it," she said.
APD Detective Kevin Covington is worried these violent thieves may strike again.
"No one stopped to help. No one called with witness information," said Covington. “If they do it again, somebody could be killed or badly, badly injured so we definitely want to get them identified."
Leroy still cannot use her left hand due to a fracture and tissue damage. Her knee is also injured, but she says the physical pain is nothing in comparison to the emotional damage.
"It really rattles my safety and my sense of security and my overall independence. There are so many people out there that could be in potential danger," she said.

University of Minnesota police are looking for a man suspected in three incidents of sexual assault on the University of Minnesota's West Bank on Thursday morning.
Police said the criminal sexual contact involving inappropriate sexual contact happened around 8:30 a.m. In each case, the man rode up to the woman on a bike, reached from behind and grabbed her genital area, according to police.
In the first case, the female student was walking on the West Bank Plaza near Anderson Hall when the assault occurred. He fled on the bike toward Wilson Library.
Minutes later, the man assaulted another female student near 19th Avenue South and Washington Avenue.

The man fled and the second victim saw him do the same thing to a third woman nearby. That victim has not yet contacted police. Police are encouraging her to do so as soon as possible.
The man is described as black, about 29 to 39 years old, with a tall, thin build and dark complexion. He was wearing a green hat, brown coat, white tennis shoes and sunglasses. He was riding a red bike.
Campus police are investigating these incidents as well as a similar assault Dec. 9.

YOUNGSTOWN — Two women, one of them a Youngstown State University student, have accused a YSU employee of rape.
A YSU police report said the victims were both assaulted in the student’s apartment in University Courtyard Apartments between 12 and 3 a.m. Jan. 17.
The assaults weren’t reported until Jan. 21, police said.
The women told police they know the man involved and have spent time with him in the past watching movies, eating dinner and working out. The YSU student said she’s known him for about five years.
The women said they had dinner with the man at a restaurant in Boardman on the night of the assault and then went to the Courtyard apartment to watch movies.
At some point, both victims told police, they found themselves in bed with the man but didn’t know how they got there. Both also said they recalled regaining consciousness to find the man on top of them and having intercourse with them without their consent, according to police

A woman walking though the Overture Center parking ramp Tuesday morning protected herself from attack by kicking the perpetrator in the groin.

Around 10:30 a.m., the 28-year-old Stoughton woman was walking from her car to the stairwell on the second level of the parking ramp when she noticed two men hidden in the stairway.
According to Joel DeSpain, spokesperson for Madison Police Department, the woman did not pay much attention to the men.

The victim was then pulled to the ground by one perpetrator. To free herself, she kicked her foot into the perpetrator’s groin.

“Certainly she’s shaken up by this, and it’s got to be very scary and very alarming, but I don’t think she’s physically injured,” DeSpain said.

The victim ran to safety and dialed 911, and MPD was immediately dispatched to the site.

A scary night for one college student, after his door is kicked in and he is taken against his will.

At about 9:30 p.m. Thursday night, officers were called out to the 1200 block of Murray Street in San Luis Obispo.
"I was able to hear the cops breaking up the fight. I could hear them talking through their speaker but I didn't know it was a fight at the time," said Cal Poly student Phoebe Pynchon, who lives in the complex.
Investigators said it was like something out of a movie. Police officers were dispatched to the apartment complex, where they said a man kicked in the front door of a 19-year-old Cal Poly student's apartment.
The victim told police that once the suspect was inside, he showed off his gun and demanded the student's property. Investigators said when he wasn't satisfied, he took the student at gunpoint to a neighbor's apartment and kicked in that door and began to take things.
"That's a little scary. That's more extreme than anything I've heard of going on this street," said Pynchon.
Investigators said before officers arrived, the apartment manager fought off the suspect, who then ran away.

The University of Delaware announced on Monday afternoon that campus police are investigating the rape of a student that reportedly occurred last month.In a statement released on UD’s news Web site, www.Udaily.com, campus officials said the student reported the incident to University Police on Jan. 25.The assault is alleged to have occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Dec. 13, 2008 in a wooded area behind the Christiana East Tower residence hall on the northern end of the university’s Newark campus.

Three men allegedly participated in the student’s rape. Two of the suspects are described as 6-feet-1-inch tall, clean shaven, with large builds. One of them was wearing a black puffy jacket and dark pants and may have been armed with a handgun. A Southern Utah University student was arrested this week on suspicion of kidnapping a classmate and trying to rape her.
The victim, 22, accepted the man's invitation to watch a movie at his home in Cedar City after a date Sunday, said Cedar City police Sgt. Jerry Womack.
Instead, the man, 21, grabbed the woman by her hair and dragged her to his bedroom, Womack said. He threatened her with a knife, molested her and "made several attempts" to rape her throughout the night, Womack said. The woman fought him off until morning, when she persuaded the man to let her go, Womack said. The victim and the suspect both are international students from South Korea, he said.
He was charged Tuesday with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault and attempted forcible sodomy, all first-degree felonies.

A quick thinking woman managed to talk a man out of raping her several times, Cedar City police said.
The 21-year-old woman went out on a first date with a fellow student at Southern Utah University on Sunday night, police said, ending up at his apartment.
"It was the first time they'd met and been together for any length of time," Cedar City police detective Mike Bleak said Wednesday. "They went back to his place and were watching a movie and he allegedly jumped her."

Police said the woman tried to fight him off, but was dragged into the bedroom.
"She tried to escape and he held a knife to her throat and told her if she'd escape, he'd kill her," Bleak said.
The woman told police the man attempted to rape her several times, but she fought him off and managed to talk him out of it. For the next several hours, Bleak said the woman was held captive in the apartment.

"He assaulted her several times, but she was able to talk him down several times and get him to calm down. Then he would attack her again," Bleak said.
About 7 a.m. Monday, police said the woman was able to persuade the man to let her go. She went home and told the family she was living with, who took her to the hospital and notified officers. Police later arrested Woonghee Cho, 21, and booked him into the Iron County Jail on investigation of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault and forcible sodomy. He remains in jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.

ANDERSON — Security for coeds at Anderson University was stepped up early today following the reported rape of an 18-year-old student.

According to Anderson police, the student was abducted by two men as she walked near the school’s soccer field about 1 a.m. at Calhoun Street and Kingsley Road. She was driven to another location and reportedly raped and returned to campus about an hour later, according to a spokesman for the Anderson Police Department.

Randall Williams, the police spokesman, said the two men have not been arrested. Each one faces charges in the attack on the woman.

The woman was treated at AnMed Health Medical Center, according to the incident report.
Williams said the victim did not know her attackers.

Williams said students should not venture outside at night unless they go with a companion, are aware of their surroundings and have a cellular phone with them.

A Chico man is arrested for raping a student at Chico State. 23-year-old Richard Bassett was arrested Tuesday. The attack happened back in October. Police say Bassett kidnapped the victim at gunpoint and raped her somewhere between Kendall and Trinity Halls. Bassett is charged with rape by force, kidnapping, robbery and making criminal threats. "I'm not surprised, but by how close it is, actually, I'm very frightened. I was actually just on my way for a walk. But now I'm thinking of going back and doing an inside workout," said UWM sophomore Carly Zietlow.

A 19-year-old student told police she woke up to find a stranger in the bedroom of her apartment. She says he got in through an unlocked door, sexually assaulted her, and fled. Just as disturbing as how the crime happened is when it happened: 10:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. The victim did manage to injure her attacker, and that's how police caught the suspect. A Shorewood police officer spotted an injured man before the report of the assault had even come in. The suspect claimed he'd been in a fight, but when the officer questioned him, he said he didn't want to file a police report.

Fortunately, the officer did ask for his name and address. Minutes later, when the attacker's description went out, the officer realized she had just met him. Police arrested him at his home within an hour of the alleged assault. But many students were still worried about their own safety. "It's scary. Cause, I mean, most of the time you think stuff like that happens at night, and it's broad daylight now. So, you gotta make sure you're protected at all times," said sophomore Vanessa Medina. The suspect is a 28-year-old man with a criminal record. He has not been charged with a crime, but the district attorney's office is expected to look into the case on Monday.

MILWAUKEE -- A college student is allegedly raped in her off-campus home and police quickly apprehend the suspect.
It happened around 11 a.m. on the city's east side.
The 19-year-old U-W Milwaukee student says she was sleeping in her home when she awoke to a stranger sitting on her bed.

Police say the 28 year-old suspect entered the home, attacked and sexually assaulted her.
The suspect then fled on foot and was stopped by a suspicious Shorewood police officer. The officer got his name and address and then waited until a friend picked him up.
Minutes later the same Shorewood officer heard a sexual assault suspect description over the scanner, matching the same man she had just spoken with. The officer contacted Milwaukee Police.

The suspect was arrested less than an hour after the alleged assault. He's being held on pending 2nd degree sexual assault charges.

The Ohio University Police Department has 26 officers, and only one of them is female — meaning women make up about 4 percent of the force. About 51 percent of OU’s Athens campus student body was female during Fall Quarter 2007. In contrast, women make up 11 percent of the police force at Miami University, 20 percent at the University of Toledo and 29 percent at Kent State University.
OUPD has to change.

This is not merely a matter of equal representation or affirmative action or something else warm and fuzzy and politically correct. This is about having officers in place that may better be able to handle sexual assault cases. In 2005, according to the 2008 Clery Report, 17 forcible sexual assaults were reported among OU students. In 2006, four were reported. In 2007, that number was 12. The results are not yet in for 2008, but the numbers are likely similar — and study after study has shown that across America, reported sexual assaults are a mere fraction of what actually takes place.

How many were never reported at OU because a student was uncomfortable and ashamed of discussing it with a male officer, we can never know. But it is not just speculating to assume that a young woman who has undergone a horrific, traumatizing rape might recoil from recounting the story to a man. This isn’t sexism: This is about creating an environment in which rape victims feel comfortable to come forward.

CHARLESTON SC (WCSC) - On Wednesday night at around 8:30, a woman walking home downtown was hit on the back of the head, knocked down, and robbed. It happened near the intersection of St. Phillip and Morris Streets. We talked to a witness, who doesn't want to be identified. She says she was getting out of her car when the other woman was attacked.
"I'm still in shock that it happened there could have been so many times that it happened to me or one of my friends", the witness said.

According to police, the victim turned from King to Radcliffe and heard a man say "she's alone get her before her house". She turned and saw 2 men standing on the street, so she started walking faster, and they started walking faster and the next thing she remembers is being hit on the back of the head and falling on the ground.

"I didn't want to run after them because what if they would come on to me to then nobody would know what was going on", the witness said

A criminal justice student stops an alleged armed burglary in his own home. Patrick Houlihan is from New London and was home on Christmas break when he says a man broke into his home. According to a report, Timothy Hill held him and his three friends hostage by gun point.
Patrick says the man entered the house through an open garage, and secured two guns from a safe. Patrick and five others friends were hanging out in the recreation room when the man allegedly broke in. "He told us he was actually downstairs in that room after he had the guns, he said he watched us for about an hour, waiting for people to leave," Houlihan said.
Patrick says two of his friends went out to get something in the car, and when they didn't return, Patrick went looking. That's when he found his two friends face down on the pavement of his driveway, with a gun pointed at them. "He assured us the whole time the guns were loaded, and I will blow your brains out right now," said Houlihan.

Patrick is a second year criminal justice student at UW-Platteville. He decided to pursue the law enforcement degree because of his involvement with the New London Police Explorers during his high school years. And he says these skills helped him during this hostage situation.
"Once I was on the ground, he had the control point of him having the gun, but the whole conversation for the most part I was controlling him, I was find out exactly what he was doing, exactly what was going on," said Houlihan said.

19 year old Timothy Hill has been charged with six felonies in connection to the crime.

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Police are looking for three men who broke into a college student's apartment, fought with him, and ran off leaving a toy gun behind.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says the incident happened Friday at an apartment complex in the 1300 block of North Don Quixote Circle, a block south of Beach Boulevard and San Pablo Road.
A 20-year-old University of North Florida student told police three men knocked on his door around 11:30 p.m. He says he opened the door and the guys told him they had the wrong apartment.
The man says about 20 minutes later the same three men came back to his apartment. He says one of the men forced the door open, and pulled out a gun.
The victim says he hit the gun as hard as he could, then got into a fight with the suspect. At this time the other two suspects barged in and tried to take an X-Box 360 and laptop computer.
The student tells police he fought with all three men. He says one of the suspects dropped the gun, and picked up the victim's BB gun before taking off.
After the suspects left, the victim examined the gun they'd left, and realized it was a fake.
Police questioned the victim's two roommates, who were home at the time of the incident. They told police they heard a scuffle, but it happened so quickly that they came out and found the suspects had gone.

Police arrested 20-year-old Lance Fick of Inman in October for an incident they say involved one victim that took place on the college campus.

STAUNTON — A man accused of sexually assaulting a Blue Ridge Community College student inside a car on campus was found guilty today of sexual battery in Augusta County General District Court and sentenced to 30 days in jail, but 19-year-old Coltan J. Strong will remain free while he appeals the conviction.

Strong, of Goshen, was arrested in October on allegations he forced an 18-year-old woman into a car on Sept. 24 and repeatedly fondled her as she struggled to break free.
The victim testified that she and Strong were "strictly friends." He became agitated upon seeing a text from her boyfriend, snatching her phone and taking her car keys between classes at the college.

She said Strong grabbed her by the hood of her sweatshirt and pulled her into the parking lot, forcing her inside her car. "I figured he was just playing," the woman testified.
With Strong driving, she said they went to a nearby gas station and then back to a school parking lot. As she tried to exit the car, she said Strong grabbed her clothing and kept her in the vehicle, then drove to a second parking lot on campus.

The woman said Strong pulled her arms behind a front seat and, holding them with one hand, fondled her as she struggled.
"I couldn't get free," she said. "Finally, he got on top of me."
The woman said she bit Strong's lip and got out of the car. She said Strong followed her to a class they shared. After class, the woman said she went home and told her parents of the incident. Authorities were then notified, she said.

The search is on for a suspect who police say sexually assaulted two women at Florida Atlantic University's Boca Raton campus.
"You think that when you're on a school campus, you're in a safer area. There's more people around," said FAU student, Danielle.

But that was not the case for two women Thursday, according to police at Florida Atlantic University's Boca campus. Authorities say at about three o'clock in the afternoon, a female student was sitting on a bench in parking lot 16, when a stranger approached her. He grabbed her arm and tried to get her to follow him into the parking lot.

"He grabbed her by the arm again and she pulled away from him. He actually grabbed her up into a bear hug and he touched her inappropriately, said some inappropriate things to her. She was able to push him off and he ultimately left," said FAU police chief, Charles Lowe.
About an hour or so after that, police say a female staff member was approached while she was outside the library. The man also grabbed her, touched her inappropriately and said inappropriate things.The victim was able to push him off as a nearby friend walked up and the suspect took off.

A Queens Supreme Court judge showed no leniency when he sentenced Darryl Littlejohn to 25 years to life in prison Wednesday for impersonating a law enforcement officer and kidnapping a York College student on her way home from school more than three years ago.

The 44-year-old Jamaica man, who is also awaiting trail in Brooklyn in the rape and murder of a John Jay College student, was dressed in a navy suit and silent as Judge Gregory Lasak issued his punishment for his convictions on kidnapping, assault and robbery charges. Lasak chastised Littlejohn, who has had five earlier convictions since 1980, for ruining 22-year-old Shanai Woodard’s life when he handcuffed her and threw her into his van on Oct. 19, 2005.

The women came to his poker room near the Southern Methodist University campus – sometimes with their boyfriends, sometimes by themselves.
Many of them found the atmosphere at his illicit poker games enticing, said James McDaniel, a self-described professional poker player known for hosting Texas Hold 'Em games four nights a week.
Authorities say Mr. McDaniel preyed on at least four of these women, maybe many more, offering them free drugs and alcohol. But , prosecutors say he tricked the women with ground-up depressants instead of lines of cocaine, or slipped the date-rape drug GHB into their drinks.
When they woke up, they believed they had been raped.

A Goucher College student who allegedly was sexually assaulted has come forward but is not cooperating with Baltimore County police, police said.

The student came forward Tuesday, days after College President Sanford Ungar sent an e-mail to the school's nearly 2,400 students, encouraging victims to reach out for support and help prevent more assaults, said Kristen Keener, a spokeswoman for the college. The e-mail reported that another student -- not a victim -- had told campus security of three alleged sexual assaults that had taken place on and off campus throughout the semester.
"Goucher is working in tandem with the Baltimore County Police Department, and we aren't able to share much more than that to ensure that their investigation isn't compromised," Keener wrote in an e-mail. Police spokesman Bill Toohey said Friday that the agency is investigating a number of calls generated by media reports of Ungar's e-mail.

"A young lady did come forward but didn't want to follow up, so there was nothing else we could do," he said. Toohey declined to say if police are close to making an arrest, saying it is standard to withhold that type of information until an arrest is made.

The school had identified three possible suspects, two students and a former student, whose names had not been released. According to Ungar's Dec. 12 e-mail, date-rape drugs were suspected to have been used in the incidents, and the victims of the alleged assaults knew their attackers.

At about 3 p.m. Friday, a 22-year-old Penn student was leaving her apartment on an upper floor of an apartment building located on the 4400 block of Spruce Street. An unidentified male approached her in the hallway and forced her back into her apartment at knifepoint, according to Capt. John Darby of the Philadelphia Police Special Victims Unit.Inside, he produced a handgun and robbed her of her iPod, cell phone, laptop and cash. He then bound, blindfolded and gagged her, Darby said.The woman was tied for more than an hour, when her roommate, a 24-year-old Penn student, arrived.

She was robbed of similar items and then sexually assaulted several times by the perpetrator over the course of several hours. Darby said the perpetrator went to great lengths to hide his identity - he wore gloves and a ski mask and also forced his victim to take a shower to try to eliminate any evidence left as a result of the assault.

The women called the police when the man left the apartment sometime after 7 p.m. They were taken to the hospital but did not suffer critical injuries, Vice President for Public Safety Maureen Rush said.It is unclear how the man, whom the women did not know, entered the apartment.

The man was armed with a gun and a knife. He is described as a black male in his mid- to late-20s, about 6 foot tall with short black hair and having an average build and goatee. He is said to be wearing black jacket with a zipper down the front over a tan shirt and blue jeans with Timberland boots. He is possibly carrying a blue bookbag and blue umbrella.Darby said that this incident bears similarities between two incidents that occurred in Center City this fall.

WORCESTER— Four men accused of sexually assaulting a College of the Holy Cross student in her dorm room will not be indicted, according to the Worcester district attorney’s office. A Worcester grand jury returned “complete no bill” decisions on Edward K. Kingori, Bizmark Obeng-Mensah, Alie Samura and Yeverne R. Sarpee on one count of sexual assault for each man, according to a list of cases reported out yesterday.

A no bill results when there is insufficient evidence for an indictment or when a charge is included in another indictment. A complete no bill means that all of the allegations against an individual were returned as no bills.

Mr. Kingori, 21, of 63 Ledgecrest Drive; Mr. Obeng-Mensah, 21, of 141 Austin St., Apt. 2; Mr. Sarpee, 18, of 98 Austin St.; and Mr. Samura, 19, of 38 Cedar St., were arrested in October. The alleged assault occurred Oct. 18.

According to police, the Holy Cross student met three of the defendants at an on-campus dance and exchanged phone numbers with one of them. Sometime around 3 a.m., the man called her and showed up at her dorm with two other men. Authorities said she let them into her room, where she alleged the sexual assaults occurred.

A 19-year-old female Santa Rosa Junior College student was sexually assaulted while driving home from class at the Santa Rosa campus Nov. 18.
The victim was driving on Bennett Valley Road close to Old Bennett Ridge Road, in Rincon Valley, when a driver behind her flashed his headlights and pulled in the lane of opposing traffic, in an attempt to force her to pull over. She pulled off Bennett Valley Road southeast of Enterprise Road and the male suspect approached her vehicle on foot.

The suspect had his nose covered with the neck of his shirt. He told her to call 911 because a motorcycle accident occurred. She began to make the phone call and the suspect told her to hang up or he would hurt her.

He committed sexual battery on her and then walked back to his car and drove off in an unknown direction.

There was an attempted rape and battery which occurred at 9:25 p.m., Thursday Dec. 11, at 201 Broadway St., according to a police press release. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male approximately 25 years old. He is 5 feet 6 inches tall, has a stocky build and a mustache. He was wearing dark clothing and a beanie-style hat.

The investigations of three possible incidents of sexual assaults of students at Goucher College are stymied as officials wait for victims or witnesses to come forward.Officials at the private school in Towson learned last week of three possible incidents of what they called “non-stranger sexual assaults,” possibly involving so-called date-rape drugs. The officials know the names of alleged victims but say they cannot interview the purported vicitms because of privacy concerns.“It’s a tricky situation,” said Kristen Keener, a Goucher College spokeswoman.“We can’t go to anybody who is an alleged victim because it is their prerogative” to come to authorities, Keener said. “The college would be very glad to get (information about the incidents) and get these victims any kind of counseling they need.”A student at the college reported to college public safety officials last week the alleged incidents that may have involved a date-rape drug, Keener said.The student did not have first-hand knowledge of the incidents but had heard about them, Keener said.It is not known when the incidents occurred because college officials learned about them third-hand. Keener said the belief is they happened recently.Goucher President Sanford Unger sent nearly 1,500 undergraduate students an e-mail alert Dec. 12 containing an appeal to students who were either victims or know something about the alleged incidents to come forward.“The investigation cannot move forward without that information,” said Keener, adding that the investigation was so being handled so far by the college, and not Baltimore County police.“It will have to remain so until someone comes forward,” she said.A county police spokesman, Cpl. Mike Hill, confirmed that his agency is not yet investigating the alleged incidents.“This is all third-hand information at this point,” Hill said. “We have not been contacted whatsoever; we have no investigations and no victims.”Keener said that, despite a lack of direct information, the college is taking the reports seriously and has no reason to believe they are a hoax.“Regardless, the college will always err on the side of student safety,” she said.

A Georgetown University student has reported an attempted sexual assault at the hands of an intruder in her off-campus residence. On Thursday, December 11, 2008 at approximately 6:43 a.m., she reported that an unidentified male entered her residence by an unknown means, went into her bedroom and into her bed, then placed his hands on her. The victim fought the suspect, and he got out of the bed and exited the bedroom. The suspect has been described as a white male with wet brown hair. DETROIT -- A reward is being offered to help solve a crime that took the life of a young college student.
Shannon Johnson, 20, was slain in her home in the 7000 block of Melrose in Detroit on Nov. 6.
Her mother discovered the body.
There was no forced entry into the home.
She was a student at Wayne County Community College, where she also worked part time.
Services were held today at the O. H. Pye Funeral Home on Plymouth Road in Detroit.
She was buried at Detroit Memorial Park West.
Johnson's grandmother Jacqueline Williams said, ""This is a big loss there is a big hole in my heart. I need that closure. Whoever you are, turn yourself in. Just turn yourself in. The question I have is why, why did you have to take her away?"
Brittany Johnson said, "She was my best friend. She was like a sister to me. We have known each other since first grade. I am going to miss her."

An un-named female Muslim student was attacked on the campus of Elmhurst College, outside Chicago. She had previously been harassed after participating in a rally calling for the closure of Guantanamo Bay military prison. The story is getting plenty of coverage in the local media (and Huffington Post) and has been circulated by national Muslim organizations. From the Chicago Sun-Times:
The 19-year-old sophomore told police a masked, male attacker struck her in the head with a handgun about 8:30 p.m. Thursday after she entered a restroom in the school's Schaible Science Center. She suffered a concussion.
Threatening graffiti -- "Kill the Muslims" -- was written on a mirror in the restroom, students and police said.
Earlier Thursday, the victim had spoken at a demonstration called to denounce the anti-Islamic slurs and swastika she had discovered on Oct. 2 in her locker, school officials and students said. Among the slurs was the phrase "Die Muslims."
Both cases are being investigated as hate crimes, Elmhurst College spokesman Charley Henderson said.
More from a local ABC affiliate:
"She received a concussion, a bruise on her side, and she passed out," said Soofia Ahmed, a good friend of the victim. They are both Muslim, both born and raised in the Chicago area.
The college believes the incident may have been a hate crime.
"We're leaning that direction, yes, we are. Since this morning, a crime alert has been posted that does say this is reported as a hate crime," said Charles Henderson, Elmhurst College spokesman.
The same student who was attacked Thursday night discovered threatening graffiti in her locker just eight days ago. The words "Die Muslims, rid us of your filth" were scrawled in magic marker on her locker along with a swastika. It is front page news in the college newspaper and the school started an investigation.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the college is offering security escorts to Muslim students.
The woman's father said Friday that she said the gunman asked her: " 'Now who is going to protect you?' " He said his daughter replied: " 'God will protect me. . . . You can kill me, but you cannot take my soul.' "Students have reported tensions on campus since students held a Sept. 18 rally to protest the Guantanamo Bay prison camp, and several witnesses reported that three female Muslim students, including the woman who reported the attack, were harassed and verbally threatened.

Tulane police are warning their students to be on the look out for a possible rapist following an alleged attack where a female student was sexually assaulted and badly beaten.

The incident occurred near the corner of Freret and Broadway early Sunday morning.
The school sent out an e-mail and posted flyers warning students to be careful.
"It's pretty scary," said Tulane senior Cali Hersh. "I had my friend walk me home last night. There's a lot of crime in New Orleans, especially in this area with all the students that are here. It's just pretty scary."
According to one report, a Tulane student was walking back to campus from a local bar, down Freret Street when an unknown man approached and that the student was attacked just off-campus, not far from the school’s library.
Tulane police say the victim suffered a broken jaw in the attack.

According to college officials, the attacker, identified as David Smith of the Williamsport area, went after the victim with what may have been a taser gun, then stole his pick-up truck.
College officials said Smith drove a few miles to a second parking lot and took off in another vehicle.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Police say a man who has been raping and sexually assaulting women near Georgetown University has struck again, and those living in the area are on alert.
Investigators say the suspect has struck at least four times this year, assaulting women in their own homes. News of an attack over the weekend at a home on R Street has many Georgetown students on edge.
If you ask Georgetown students about a man sexually assaulting women in the neighborhood, they know exactly who you're talking about. The university alerted its students to an assault last Friday in the 3700 block of R Street.
During the overnight hours, police say a man walked into a woman's bedroom and put his arm around her, then left the apartment a moment later.
But police say in some cases, the man isn't just cuddling. Back in June on the 2400 block of Tunlaw Street, police reports show a woman woke up to a man kissing her on the neck and trying to rape her. When she asked what he was doing, the suspect took off.
Police say the mode of operation has been similar in each case.
"A lot of times, he's been able to get in through an unlocked door or an unlocked window," said Lt. Pamela Burkett-Jones of the D.C. Police Department. "We've asked citizens to make sure their doors are locked."
Kirsten Oftedahl and her roommate, Kimberly, live on Tunlaw Street where the attack in June took place.
"A little nerve-racking and scared about walking around alone at night, especially coming home by myself," said Oftedahl.
The two Georgetown students even stepped up security in their home, adding a lock to their front door and blinds to their back door so no one can see in.
"We don't want them to know when we're here and when we're not," said Oftedahl.
Police say the suspect has attacked women between 3 and 4 a.m. in the area, and he's hit twice on R Street. Kit Niesen told FOX 5 her friend endured a similar attack in her home last spring.
"She's really freaked out," said Niesen. "She has a lock on her door, and she's trying to keep her roommates aware even on nights when they're going out."
Police are asking students to keep their doors and windows locked at night, and to take the campus shuttle service or safe ride escorts. If you see anything suspicious in the area, you're asked to call police.

Two years ago an undergrad at the University of Portland, a private Catholic college, asked a male friend to walk her back to her dorm after a party. He claims they had consensual sex when they got there. She says he raped her.

Some time later, she reported the incident to the campus police, but the university brought no charges against the alleged assailant. When she criticized them and asked why no action had been taken, she received a letter from the university’s judicial coordinator that read as follows:
Based upon my findings in my investigation, I am unable to determine if a sexual assault occurred. I have reason to believe that intercourse occurred, but both parties admit to drinking and therefore, consent—or lack of consent—is difficult to determine. Daily News columnist Errol Louis revealed details of the troubling attack in Wednesday's editions, citing fears of unrest if arrests are not made soon. Police sources say their investigation has been slowed by the refusal of neighborhood Hasidic residents to cooperate with authorities. Earica Flood doesn’t understand why she was attacked and why no one called an ambulance. Her father wants quick action after a fight that left his daughter with serious injuries.
It was somewhere around midnight when Earica Flood and some friends took the dance floor at Cheerleaders on Broadway.
Gigi Barnett reports an incidental brush with another woman escalated into mayhem.
“When a girl said that I bumped into her, I turned around and said, `I’m sorry, excuse me.’” That’s when everything started. She started throwing up signs; they were from the west side,” Flood said.
After almost a week in the hospital, Earica is back home with her parents. She’s recovering from a concussion, broken nose and lacerated liver. The injuries were inflicted by five or six women whose kicks and stomps were partially caught on security cameras.
“My friends said I lost my balance. I slipped and fell. People were kicking me in my side, in my face, pulling my hair out,” Flood said.
Club management says Flood refused medical treatment but she tells Eyewitness News that’s not the case at all.
“I wasn’t really offered anything other than ice and paper towels,” she said.
Earica’s father is glad to have her home but that doesn’t ease his anger.
“I’m still angry. I’m anticipating someone getting caught for this. It can’t happen fast enough,” Earl Flood said.
Doctors are telling Earica to take a month off to fully recover before going back to school, but she’s learned a costly lesson.
“Things do happen even if you don’t provoke anyone. Things can happen. It really is as serious as people say it is out there,” she said.
So far, police have not made an arrest in this case.
Earica must wait a while before learning from her doctors whether she’ll need plastic surgery.

Police are searching for a man who sexually assaulted a 20-year-old female student at knifepoint after an evening class at El Camino College this week, officials said today.
After a dance class in the women’s gymnasium Tuesday, the woman walked around a corner to a soda machine on her way to meet her mother in a nearby parking lot, El Camino College Police Chief Steve Port said today. A man approached her at knifepoint near the vending machine, took her behind the women’s gym to an alcove near the locker room, where he sexually assaulted her for 15 to 20 minutes, Port said.
After the assault, the victim called 911 from her cellphone, Port said, and a campus police cadet walking nearby heard her sobbing and went to help her. The victim’s mother, curious about the arrival of emergency vehicles and equipment, left her car and walked over to the area, finding her daughter being attended to by paramedics, Port said.
The woman was taken to a hospital, where she stayed overnight, and evidence was gathered and sent to the county crime lab, Port said. As of Wednesday, she was home with her family, officials said.
Port said the area was “fairly well populated” in the evening. He said police hoped the public would provide tips and that a student might have seen something.
“When he grabs her, he’s holding the knife, he has a ski mask on, a hood over the ski mask, all in black dark clothes, a non-police person is still going to see this person and know it’s not Halloween,” Port said

By PAUL WALSH, Star Tribune Last update: November 11, 2008 - 11:05 PM An Augsburg College student and Sarah Palin supporter from Alaska was beaten on election night while walking to her dorm and was called a racist by a group of four young women because she had on a McCain/Palin presidential campaign button, authorities and the victim said. Annie Grossmann, a freshman on the Minneapolis college's hockey team, suffered blurred vision and is thought to have had a concussion from a punch in the eye, but declined medical attention, she said. Through her mother, Grossmann, 18, of Delta Junction, reported the assault to campus security the next morning, and Minneapolis police were notified that afternoon. No arrests have been made. Grossmann said she was in a dorm lobby with a handful of fellow Republicans watching election returns with "a bunch of Democrats around next to me, cheering [Barack] Obama on and rubbing it in our faces." Once it was obvious that Obama was going to win, Grossmann said, she left the building alone shortly after 9:30 p.m. and headed to her room. Under a skyway connecting the two buildings, four women "bigger than I am" came up to her, she said. "One approached me and got in my face and called me racist because I had the pin on. Police say a female Temple University student was physically and sexually assaulted in classroom building as classes were in session.Investigators say the 22-year-old woman had been attending a class at Temple's 12-story Anderson Hall when her assailant attacked her in a hallway and pulled her into a bathroom on Thursday night.

Incident occured on Jamestown Road after a dorm party
A female College student was assaulted and robbed on Jamestown Road while walking home from a party in Jamestown South at 2:13 a.m. Oct. 27.
The suspect approached the student on the right side of the street and first asked where the party was taking place.
He then proceeded to steal the student’s purse, injuring her face and arm in the process. The student’s injuries were not serious.
The suspect, a black male, is thought to be about 5’9” and in his early 20s.
At the time of the incident, the victim reported the suspect as wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and a knit hat with a brim. Since the assault and robbery occurred beyond College property, the Williamsburg Police Department has been handling the investigation.
According to a Williamsburg police representative, 12 assaults and robberies occur each year on average.
Of those incidents, the number of robberies that actually involve College students are few.
“All suspects meet three criteria: the ability, the desire and the opportunity,” the representative said. “We cannot change the ability or the desire, but as citizens we can avoid giving them the [opportunity] to commit the crime.”
To prevent robberies, the Williamsburg Police Department suggests being smart in one’s decisions and always traveling in groups.
“Avoid being by yourself out late at night,” the representative said. “If you see something suspicious, don’t be afraid to call the police department

Muncie - A Muncie college student is recovering from serious injuries to both arms after she says five young women beat her up. Her attackers aren't being modest, either. They're bragging about the attack online.
Just out of the hospital, the victim, Christina, described her emotional and physical state after the attack.
"As soon as the adrenalin wore off, I just thought I was going to die," she said.
Her father, Rick, doesn't understand the bravado of his daughter's attackers.
"You don't go around injuring and beating people up and go, 'This is something to brag about'."
The family doesn't want their last name used. They still feel threatened by the women Christina says attacked her, allegedly over a boy her friend was dating. She calls the act "completely animalistic."
"It's ridiculous," she said. "You question their sanity."
The assault happened early Sunday morning. Christina was leaving a party at a house in Muncie when she says four young women surrounded her before the primary attacker came onto the porch.
"She went for my throat," Christina says. "She's a lot smaller than me, and I just pushed her down. I don't even know who came at me when. I got punched down on my face."
She says they kicked her repeatedly.
"Every time I tried to pick myself up, my arms were kicked out from underneath me," she said.
The kicks broke the bone around her elbow and injured her other arm.

Oakland Police are searching for suspects in a recent attack in the Merritt College parking lot in which a 25 year-old nursing student had an acidic substance throw on her face, resulting in extreme burns.In hopes of getting cooperation from the public, Oakland police have posted sketches of the suspects and offered up to $15,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and successful prosecution of those responsible for the crime.The assault occurred on Sept. 12 around 8:15pm in the A parking lot near the Merritt children's center. The two males approached the victim from opposite sides and after one of the men spoke to woman, the suspect threw an unknown substance on her from approximately three feet away. The chemical caused second-degree burns to seventy-five percent of her face, head and neck.The suspect who threw the substance is described as a black man with a medium complexion in his early 20s of at least 5 feet 6 weighing 150 pounds with collar-length dreadlocks. He was seen wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and a white t-shirt.His partner was described as a light-skinned black man in his late teens; about 5 feet 8, 160 pounds wearing a black, hooded sweat shirt and black pants. He may have had a white t-shirt also. The attack was not random and one the suspects may have been hired by a former acquaintance or ex-boyfriend of the victim, according to sources.

''Get off the boat, N-----,'' the teens said to Barrett, according to police reports.
Words were exchanged, but the FIU students got off the boat, said Christopher Eden, who had attended the party with Barrett and friend Daniel Cabevas.
The three friends, all 18, decided to wait on the island for the boat's next trip.
But when they arrived back at the marina, the teens, now armed with baseball bats, were waiting for them.
The three college students were overwhelmed by their attackers.
Barrett was knocked into the Intracoastal, and several teens tried holding his head under water, according to police reports.
Yeah, that's what attempted murder looks like.
''Upon my arrival, I observed approximately 10-15 subjects trying to leave the area in a hurry,'' Goldberg wrote in his report. ``There were three victims who were hit with bats and one victim was almost drowned . . . while also being beaten.''
Miami-Dade, Surfside, Sunny Isles Beach and Bay Harbor Islands officers also went to the scene.
A bloody baseball bat was taken as evidence. The arrests were made by detectives from Miami-Dade's Intracoastal station.
Charged with a hate crime, battery and attempted felony murder: Miguel Aranda, 18, and Gilberto Maakaroun, 17, a North Miami Beach High student.
Charged with a hate crime and battery: Nicholas Checa, 15, and Marino Biondini, 17.
A fifth person, Jose Osorio, 21, was charged with aggravated battery and attempted felony murder, but not a hate crime.

The Berks County District Attorney says three men have been arrested in the beating death of a Kutztown University student on a downtown sidewalk early this morning.Berks County District Attorney Mark Baldwin says the three were charged with assaulting 19-year-old Kyle Quinn. Baldwin says he anticipates filing homicide charges, pending an autopsy schedled for Saturday.

Baldwin said a police officer in the small college town saw Quinn beaten and lying in a pool of blood around 2:00 a.m. and arrested the three.According to the school, Quinn was a sophomore history major from Warminster. He had taken classes at Penn State and a summer course at Bucks County Community College before transferring to Kutztown.The three suspects' names weren't immediately released. They were each charged with Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault and Conspiracy.

KUTZTOWN, Pa. — A Kutztown University student was beaten to death on a downtown sidewalk early Friday by three men who evidently chose their victim at random, police said.
The suspects, all from Allentown, were charged with assaulting Kyle Quinn, 19, who was pronounced dead at a hospital about an hour after the attack. The district attorney said he anticipated filing homicide charges pending the results of an autopsy scheduled for Saturday.
Kutztown's president, F. Javier Cevallos, called the beating a "senseless isolated random act of violence" and urged students to be vigilant.
A police officer in the small college town happened upon the scene shortly before 2:30 a.m., saw Quinn on the ground and arrested the men, who are not students, Berks County District Attorney Mark Baldwin said.
"He had been beaten and was lying in a pool of blood on the sidewalk," Baldwin said.
The suspects were identified as Terry D. Kline Jr., who turned 22 on Thursday; his brother Kenneth R. Kline, 21; and Timothy R. Gearhart, 23.

Yale Summer Students worried by five recent robberies

A recent spate of crimes targeting Yale students has prompted YPD officials to release e-mails warning students of what they said is an "ongoing threat."
The same day that undergraduate dorms closed, a graduate student was the victim of an attempted armed robbery near the intersection of Mansfield and Sachem Streets. Four other robberies were committed recently - one on Cedar Street and two in the Dwight-Kensington neighborhood on May 31, as well as one on the walkway between Morse and Stiles Colleges on June 3. At least three of those incidents were armed robberies.
While the YPD generally does not inform students of every incident that occurs around campus through e-mail, YPD Sergeant Steven Woznyk said in this case students should be informed of the incidents as the latest rash of crime seems to indicate the possibility of a continued threat.
Woznyk said the rise in crimes affecting Yale students has kept pace with a general increase in violent crime across New Haven. During the weekend of June 2-3, six shootings and one homicide occurred in the city, he said, suggesting that Yale students are not being singled out for robberies.
Most crime in summer of 2006 was perpetrated by youths on bikes armed with pellet guns and knives, but Woznyk said "boys on bikes" have had nothing to do with the recent Yale robberies. One graduate student was mugged in late June of last year and two more students were targeted in late August.
And while YPD Chief James Perrotti's e-mails attributed increased student vulnerability to warmer weather and longer periods of daylight, Woznyk said he could not offer an explanation as to why crimes rates have increased this summer.

HIALEAH, Fla. -- A Miami-Dade College student was caught in the middle of a violent love triangle Thursday night when her boyfriend's ex-girlfriend attacked her, police said.
According to Hialeah police, Terina Garcia abducted the student from the Hialeah campus and stabbed her repeatedly. As the student tried to escape, she was run down by Garcia's car, police said.
Garcia, 20, was later arrested and charged with three counts of premeditated attempted murder/aggravated battery and one count of kidnapping with a weapon.
The victim was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where she was listed in critical condition. Her name has not been released.

Norman, 19, of 801 Grand Ave. with rape, sexual assault and indecent assault, officers said, after he had sex with a female Slippery Rock student after she had told him twice that she didn’t want to have sex with him.

The female student told police that she sent a text message to Norman around 5 p.m. Dec. 3, asking to meet him outside a residence hall. They met later that night, and Norman suggested they sit in his truck because it was too cold to be outside.The woman agreed, but said Norman became aggressive once they were inside his truck.

She told police that she protested several times — once even trying to get out of the truck — but Norman eventually forcibly removed her sweat pants and had sex with her in the vehicle.Police said officers interviewed Norman twice, and both times he admitted that the woman had told him to stop. In a Dec. 11 interview, Norman told officers that he should have stopped when told.

A Duke University student living in the off-campus Belmont Apartments reported to Durham Police that she was assaulted Monday night [September 11] in her residence.The student, who is 21, told Durham police that a man entered her unlocked apartment off LaSalle Street at 11 p.m. and pulled her out of the bathroom, said Duke Police Maj. Phyllis Cooper. The man got on top of the student but did not sexually assault her, Cooper said. The student was able to get away and call 911, at which point the man fled from the apartment.Cooper said the incident is being investigated by the Durham Police Department as a burglary and aggravated assault with sexual motives.

The case began as a home invasion but has turned into a homicide investigation, troopers said. It happened between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. Wednesday at an off-campus home on South Fifth Avenue in Clarion Township.

An 18-year-old Hampshire College student was treated at the Cooley Dickinson Hospital on Friday after he was severely beaten in his dorm room, according to Amherst police.
Salvador Perez, 23, of Dumont, N.J. was arrested at the Greenwich housing unit on campus in connection with the beating.
Police say the male victim awoke to find Perez standing in his room. Perez allegedly struck the victim repeatedly with a metal flashlight. He then strangled the victim with a nylon cord until he lost consciousness, police said.
The victim was treated and released early Friday morning at Cooley Dickinson Hospital for neck and head injuries, as well as for lacerations he suffered during the struggle.
Perez is not a Hampshire College student.
Perez was arraigned Friday morning at Eastern Hampshire District Court in Hadley on a list of charges, which included assault with the intent to murder, domestic assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (metal flashlight). He pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Police would not release the victim's identity, but did say he was alone when the attack occurred.
Police would also not name the housing unit where the attack took place.
Perez is currently held on $25,000 cash bail.

The Columbus Division of Police are searching for a white male area resident that may have an unexplained facial injury after attempting to sexually assault a female in her house early Wednesday morning.The assault occurred in the off-campus area at 3 a.m. Wednesday in a residence on the corner of Chittenden and Indianola.

The victim remains in stable condition after sustaining a stab wound to the chest, while fighting off the attacker.The victim, a white female, awoke and saw a white male standing in her room. She struggled with the intruder when he approached her, kicking him in the face. According to a statement released by the Columbus Division of Police the suspect was carrying the knife when he entered the residence.

The decomposed body of Hunter College student Ramona Moore, 21, who had been missing from her Remsen Avenue home since last month, was found behind a burned-out house on Kings Highway last weekend, police said.
According to NYPD spokesperson Police Officer Jennara Verleth, the victim’s mother, Ellie Carmichael, received an anonymous phone call Saturday afternoon directing her to go to the Kings Highway address, an abandoned private home near East 57 Street that had sustained a fire recently, where she would find her daughter.
Carmichael immediately called police, and officers from the 63rd Precinct and Emergency Service Units began searching in and around the house, eventually discovering Moore’s naked body behind the house wrapped in a blanket.
"The medical examiner’s office couldn’t come up with an identity at first," said Verleth. "They called it a homicide right away and said the girl had apparently been beaten to death." Sources later said it appeared she had been beaten about the head and chest.
The spokesperson said Moore left her house at about 7:30 p.m. to visit a friend and then left the friend’s house at 9 p.m. to go to a Burger King Restaurant at Church and Remsen avenues. She never reached the restaurant, police said, after questioning a number of neighborhood residents and restaurant personnel.

Gardner, 22, was shot early Sunday morning as he sat in the passenger seat of a friend's Infiniti after the friend honked his horn at a Chevrolet Tahoe that was being driven erratically on Interstate 380 in San Bruno, California Highway Patrol investigators said.
Somebody in the Tahoe responded to the beep with a burst of gunfire, investigators said. One of those bullets tore through the back of Gardner's seat and into his head, according to his mother, Karen Gardner, who on Monday made the decision to end life support and donate her son's organs.
